What is the VSME?

The VSME (Voluntary Sustainability Reporting Standard for non-listed SMEs) was published by EFRAG in December 2024, and in July 2025 the European Commission recommended it as the reference standard for sustainability information that banks, investors and large customers request from smaller companies. Instead of answering a different questionnaire from every customer, a small business can prepare one VSME report and share it. It is used well beyond the EU by suppliers to European companies.

The Basic Module has 11 disclosures, B1 to B11, covering company information, policies, energy and greenhouse gas emissions, pollution, biodiversity, water, waste, workforce, health and safety, pay and training, and corruption. Each item is required only when it applies to your company. For a full explanation with examples, read what is the VSME?

Frequently asked questions

Is this an official EFRAG template?

No. It is an independent Word report template that follows the structure and data points of the VSME Basic Module published by EFRAG. EFRAG also publishes a free Excel data template; this Word template turns the same data into a readable report you can share.

Do I need to report everything in B1 to B11?

Only what applies to your company. For example, B4 pollution applies only if you already report pollutants under a permit or management system, and the gender pay gap may be omitted below 150 employees. The template includes wording for “not applicable” cases.

Can a company outside the EU use it?

Yes. Many suppliers to European companies in the UK, US, Asia and elsewhere are asked for VSME-style information. The template works for any country.

How do I receive it?

Check out in the climaRevolt store; we email you an invoice (card, PayPal or bank transfer) and send the Word file as soon as payment arrives, usually the same day.

Can I get a refund?

If the file does not open or does not work as described, email us within 14 days and we will fix it or refund you.
